SUS316 is a grade under the Japanese standard. It is stainless, heat-resistant, corrosion-resistant steel. It is austenitic stainless steel. It is 00Cr17Ni14Mo2 for the national standard. It is a better stainless steel than 304. In seawater and various other media, the corrosion resistance ratio 0Cr19Ni9 is good, mainly pitting corrosion resistant material.
316L stainless steel plates are part of the austenitic family of stainless steel and is the most widely used varieties of stainless plate. 316L plate is a good option for marine applications due to a good atmospheric corrosion resistance. 316L is a low carbon modification to 316 grade.
316L stainless steel containing molybdenum species, the steel containing molybdenum, the overall performance is better than steel 310 and 304 stainless steel, high temperature conditions, when the sulfuric acid concentration is less than 15% or greater than 85%, 316L stainless steel with a wide range of purposes. 316L stainless steel also has good resistance to chloride corrosion performance, it is usually used in the marine environment.
The austenitic class of 316L stainless steels is generally considered to be weldable by the common fusion and resistance techniques. Special consideration is re-quired to avoid weld ”hot cracking“ by assuring formation of ferrite in the weld deposit. These particular alloys are
generally considered to have poorer weldability than Types 304 and 304L. Amajor difference is the higher nickel content for these alloys which requiresslower arc welding speed and more care to avoid hot cracking. When a weld filler is needed, AWS E/ER 316L and 16-8-2
are most often specified. Types 316 and its low-carbon ”L“ version are well known in reference literature and more information can be obtained in this way.
